A DYNAMIC GROWTH MARKET

There are over 2,300 companies specialized in refrigeration, air conditioning and industrial kitchens in France. 60% of these companies employ less than 10 people. The market as a whole grows constantly, every year.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMMEDIATE EMPLOYMENT
Demand is currently such that everyone who qualifies finds work immediately. The most sought-after qualification is the Bac*, ahead of the BEP* and the Bac +2*.
The scarcity of qualified workers means that the employment market is eager to absorb thousands of young refrigeration craftsmens.
A JOB THAT OFFERS VARIETY

The title of “Refrigeration Craftsman” covers a multitude of multi-skilled professionals intervening in multiple working contexts: Commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, industrial refrigeration, industrial kitchens, and special applications. It is not unusual for these specializations to coexist in a single company.

REFRIGERATION ENABLED ME TO ACHIEVE MY DREAM:
TO TRAVEL THE WORLD…

“I was attracted to refrigeration craftsmaning as a career because of the many opportunities for working abroad - especially in countries with hot climates, where the food chain needs refrigeration techniques”.
Gérard M. - age 35

I LIKE THE CONTACT WITH PEOPLE: THE REFRIGERATION CRAFTSMAN IS THE COMPANY’S TOP SALESPERSON!
«The combination of highly technical knowledge and sustained involvement in food processing and industrial manufacturing make the refrigeration craftsman a true expert. We are recognised as such, and we work in close collaboration with our customers”.
Alain B. - age 22
I'VE GOT ITCHY FEET:
I LIKE CHANGING SECTOR AND ACTIVITY OFTEN

“One day on the site of a Chamonix supermarket, a week later busy fixing the air-conditioning of a large concert hall: the job of a refrigeration craftsman is the most varied work I know of. My feet are naturally itchy, and it allows me to constantly stimulate my interest".
Slimane, age 25.

A PROFESSION THAT WELCOMES YOUNG WOMEN
“The fact that the refrigeration profession is predominantly masculine, doesn’t mean it doesn’t know how to welcome young women. The initial suspicion of the technicians rapidly moved over to make room for kindly and almost ‘paternal’ consideration. Young women are welcome in this profession.”
Catherine C. - age 28.

IT’S THE TECHNICITY I LOVE
Even as a young child, I was passionate about technical things: Lego, and later Meccano, were my constant companions. The work of a refrigeration craftsman allows me to indulge my technical enthusiasm with thermodynamics, mechanics, electricity, electronics and ventilation. Being a refrigeration craftsman means being able to play with technology, whilst having a direct and close relationship with the customer.
Philippe S. - age 38

TRAINING THAT IS SHORT AND MODULAR
“I didn’t want to enter a long period of training. I chose refrigeration because the industry offers both initial training and ongoing training, and also sandwich courses. With my BEP in hand, I found a job straight away. A year later I went back to college to pass my "Refrigeration" Bac. A year in the workplace opened my eyes. Now I’m studying for the BTS”.
Stéphane G. - age 21
THE REFRIGERATION CRAFTSMAN?
A MODERN-DAY MACGYVER

“For me, a refrigeration craftsman should be curious, technical, cultivated, responsible, autonomous, free, open towards others, and resourceful: A true modern-day MacGyver”
Philippe L. - age 33.

I LIKE TO BE AUTONOMOUS AND HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES
“I couldn’t stand the big company hierarchy any longer. Choosing refrigeration was my chance to be autonomous in my decision-making, and also to accept my responsibilities. Both precision and initiative must be shown on site”.
Myriam P. - age 32.

There is a wide choice among the different company types for the newly-qualified.
Installation
Contractors are most often on a human scale. These professionals design and carry out refrigeration, air-conditioning or industrial kitchen installations on the premises of their customers. These companies are currently suffering as a result of the scarcity of workers and are looking for holders of the Bac, preferably, and also the BEP. The most structured of these companies also recruit BTS holders, and more rarely those with higher qualifications.

Maintenance
More and more contractors are developing their own maintenance departments. The work of a maintenance technician consists of optimizing the operation of an installation and its performance, and avoiding or repairing breakdowns.
This activity requires technicians of all levels of qualification, from BEP to BTS.

Engineering Studies
The work of a technician in a research department is the design of refrigeration and air conditioning installations.

Companies recruit newly-qualified people from the BTS level.

Distribution
Wholesalers are the indispensable interface between the installers and the equipment constructors. They furnish thousands of installers with technical supplies every day.
The wholesalers are looking for qualified refrigeration engineers (usually BTS or Bac level) to occupy technical/commercial posts in direct and close collaboration with the installers.

Assembly
Certain contractors and distributors have assembly workshops in which the equipment that is destined to be delivered to a site is pre-assembled. Yet again, the research and assembly activities are both necessary and require the skills of technicians – from BEP level to BTS level, and higher.
